What
is it? Asbestos is a mineral fiber found in rocks. There

fire resistant and not easily destroyed or degraded by
natural processes.

fibers must be released from the material and be present
in the air for people to breathe.
Do all people exposed to asbestos develop asbestos
related disease? No. Most people exposed to small amounts
of
asbestos do not develop any asbestos related health problems.
Where is asbestos used in the home? Asbestos was widely
used in homes built prior to 1978. Items containing asbestos
include sprayed on ceilings, vinyl tile flooring patching
compounds, textured paints, stove and furnace pipe insulation,
roofing shingles and sidings.
How can I tell if I have asbestos in my home? Have any
questionable material analyzed by a laboratory.

the material containing asbestos is in good condition
leave it alone. If the material is damaged or needs to
